It’s looking likely that Trump is going to be the Republican candidate in 2024. Despite all the lawsuits, criminal indictments and proven lies, he is currently 43 points* ahead of his nearest rival, the religious and (in my humble opinion), dangerous nut-job that is Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
I argued recently that it would be a calculated risk for the Democrats to have a previously beaten candidate run against them again, and therefore to give their boy (or girl?) a better chance. Of course it is a risk, as the orange-faced man-baby could sneak in – like he did in 2016 on 2.9 million less votes than Hillary.** What a great system they have in the US.
If so, it would probably have been due to the ‘gerrymandered’ votes of his MAGA followers, who seem to think that there’s nothing that this appalling buffoon can do to shake their belief in him. Sorry – is that descriptor unfair to buffoons?
Talking of ‘MAGA’, it seems to me that Make America Great Again is the finest piece of cynical doublespeak we’ve seen since George Orwell wrote 1984. But it raises the question – has it now had its day? Do we need to change the game? After all, putting Trump – an indicted criminal and self-proclaimed pussy-grabber – back into the White House is the surest way to achieve the opposite. Make America great again? No way – it would make it even more of a laughing stock on the world stage than it already is. Not to mention how Trump’s capricious and arbitrary exercise of power could be a real and present danger for the rest of the world.
So I have decided the time has come to put MAGA behind us. It’s time to launch a new campaign slogan, with a view to it being adopted by Trump’s redneck base. One that is more appropriate to the personal cult he’s created.
I have given it some thought, and have come up with what I think is the perfect new slogan. An absolute doozy. Not only does it describe the movement with much better accuracy, but it also makes better use of irony – something clearly unknown in the red states – so that we in the rest of the world can have even more of a laugh at their expense.
My slogan is this: Trump. What A Tool!
As I am sure you will see, it works on a number of levels. While those of us who have the benefit of an actual education (i.e. one that includes subjects such as evolution, science, biology, ballistics and world geography), can immediately appreciate that ‘tool’ is a term of derision, I am willing to bet that the average Trump supporter (and Marjorie Taylor Greene) thinks it is something to be proud of – a person who ‘gets shit done’.
It also has the benefit of being as good an acronym as MAGA to fit neatly onto a red baseball cap. And, of course, an excellent descriptor of the person underneath the cap.
Please therefore join me in my campaign to make MAGAs become better known as TWATs. I will be printing up a few thousand caps to send to places like Florida and Arkansas, together with some posts on Twitter and ‘Truth’ Social to seed the campaign. Once it starts to take off, I can see it achieving sufficient momentum to displace MAGA as the Trump slogan. I look forward to seeing a 2024 Republican rally where lots of gun-belt wearing supporters appear in TWAT caps, which would, of course, be confirming something we know already.
And it doesn’t have to end there. A good campaign – one with ‘legs’ – needs to be capable of further development. So I would suggest that once the TWAT slogan has bedded in, we can move it on to the next step. This will be to add ‘He Is Mental’ to TWAT.
If they ask, we can explain that it means that he’s a ‘deep thinker’.
Trump. Anyone want to TWAT HIM – and do all that is humanly possible to prevent this dangerous ‘tool’ from ever having any form of power ever again?
Other than deciding where in the cell to put the slop bucket.
